AIGA MIAMI: Portfolio Review

Take your portfolio for a spin! AIGA MIAMI is having a portfolio review and your book cannot miss it. Clean the dust on your cover, get rid of old resumes, put your best pieces together, dress up and take your book to compete for the Best in Show Award ($500).

This one-day-long event is designed to give you advice about how to present yourself and your work, marketing where you want to be. You can practice your interview skills and get honest feedback from local design professionals–creative directors, art directors, media producers, educators and hiring managers. Gain exposure, broaden your network and become aware of the South Florida creative field and the current job market. A diverse team of professionals will be sharing their creative perspective and points of view when hiring... and they may be looking for potential employees or interns.

The event is open to design students, MFA cadidates and recent grads (a year or less since graduation date) but space is limited so register early to guarantee your spot.

What to Bring
·     Portfolio book with 10 to 15 of your best portfolio pieces.
·     If you plan on showing interactive or web based work, come prepared with a laptop (fully charged battery and extension cord.) Wireless Internet may be installed in the space, but we cannot guarantee it, do not rely upon it.
·     Bring along several copies of your resume and business cards.

VASSOULA VASILIOU
British Creative Director currently providing creative leadership and inspiration, leading an in house design studio at Office Depot Own Brand Group. For the past four years she has been developing all the Own Brands and Packaging. Has worked with international multidisciplinary design consultancies like Fitch worldwide, in London, Madrid, and San Francisco, & Landor San Francisco. Her work has spanned, touched and influenced such Brands as Nissan, Visa, Italian State Railways, Arclight, National Bank of Greece, Adobe.

LEONEL DIAZ
Creative leader with over 15 years of experience in design, interactive, broadcast production, advertising, marketing and other communications. His work has also been recognized by the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), The American Advertising Federation (AAF), numerous industry publications, and is part of the permanent collection of distinguished American design at the Library of Congress. His expertise has touched countless brands across numerous industries, including real estate, travel and tourism, luxury brands, fashion, arts and entertainment, automotive, aviation, education and several charities. Currently Creative Director at the JeffreyGroup.

KRISTI MOE
Director of Marketing for TCCD International. Her experience spans multiple industries, not just CPG. Past experience includes being part of the board of directors for Design Madison (the professional graphic design group in Madison, WI). Has worked on major accounts such as Verizon, Coke, Nike and Wisconsin Fashion Week.

KIM GRIJALVA
Principal and Creative Director of award-winning boutique creative studio Stella Design and StellaInk fine letterpress printing in Ft Lauderdale. With a background in Industrial Design and Set Design, Kim offers an immersive design approach in the areas of environmental design, websites, photo art direction, core branding and positioning.

RICK McCAWLEY
Currently the Program Manager for Graphic Design at Broward College, and a tenured faculty member for 10 years. Rick is the recipient of the, John and James L. Knight Foundation Endowed teaching Chair 2007. He has authored 7 books on Graphic Design and Photography, and is currently working to convert them into interactive publications.

JIM NICHOLAS
Currently Lead Visioneer + Corporate Design Strategist at NextEra Energy, Inc. | Florida Power & Light Company. Most recently, Jim led NextEra Energy, Inc. and its subsidiaries through a very successful rebranding initiatives for this highly-regarded and acclaimed Fortune 150 company. Jim’s creative expertise has been sought by some of the world’s most recognizable brands: The Walt Disney Company, The Simpsons, Bed Bath & Beyond, Major League Baseball, Nickelodeon, Volvo, and Mattel, to name just a few.

JOHANNE PRADEL WILSON
Johanne has spent over a decade in the creative industry working on dynamic branding initiatives for world-class clients such as Diageo, P&G Beauty, Clairol, Greater Fort Lauderdale, and Boston Market which leveraged a diverse mix of platforms including, print, interactive, out-of-home and non-traditional media. Johanne’s unique flare continues to blossom as VP of Fashion and Brand Development of CLOAK Inc. and senior Art Director of Starmark International.

MARK SMITH
Currently the director of talent acquisition with Qualified Creatives. Mark began his career as a creative working with copywriting, photography and design for textbooks, environmental graphics and packaging.
