Have you ever had someone “steal” your work by claiming something you created as their own? Or ripping off your idea and using it in their design or artwork? This is called copyright infringement, and it’s an ongoing issue in the creative community, especially on online platforms. It’s important to learn how to protect yourself before something like this happens—and know what to do once it has occurred.
But there’s another side to this coin: on social media, it’s common to re-post images from other accounts as a means of sharing inspiration, design envy, ideas and life goals. Did you know that this also can be considered copyright infringement? By sharing another person’s work without getting their permission, you put yourself at risk for potential legal action.
Join us for the Business of Design Part 3 with attorneys Christopher DiSchino and Brenda Schamy on Tuesday, September 11 at WeWork South of 5th. Chris and Brenda will speak about the complex issue of copyright, specifically focusing on its impact in social media. Learn the ins and outs of how to protect your work as a creator, and how to respect the rights of other creators on social platforms.
